Give Trent Manning a pile of old, rusty, worn out stuff and he’s a happy man. His preferred materials are recycled, salvaged, and repurposed items that are discarded by others. “I love to find things that have a history to them,” he says.
As a self taught artist, Manning painted for many years but put down his brushes when he entered a gallery show with a found objects theme. With a $2 mystery box of random items from a garage sale, he created his first mixed media sculpture and was hooked.
He acknowledges a fascination with things that have a dark or macabre theme to them. At the same time, he is influenced by the imagery of children’s stories and cartoons. This tug of opposites is central to his creative process. He considers the balance of light and dark to be a signature theme in his work.
Trent resides in his hometown of Winter Haven with his wife and daughter.
