Inventory Renewal Show (IRS)

Date: April 18 - 20, 2008
Time: Friday 6-9pm, Saturday 10am - 6pm, Sunday 12 - 5pm

Details: April means tax month, spring cleaning and the IRS event at Jeanine Taylor Folk Art! In order to make room for new inventory for the summer show, Jeanine has selected some collector's favorites to offer at progressively lower prices throughout the weekend. Friday night, pieces will be marked at 20% off, Saturday 30% off, and Sunday 40% off. This event will be in the gallery only, not online.



Debut of documentary film Sculpting History: Mr. Imagination's Sanford Community Memory Sculpture

Solid Memories, Art by Adam Farrington

Guest Artist: Adam Farrington here for the Opening Reception, March 1 from 6-9pm
Details: Described as one of New Orleans' most exciting young artists, Farrington creates intricate sculptures that combine dichotomous objects in a first glance whimsical manner. Upon closer investigation, Farrington's creations often speak to urban sprawl and decay.

Influenced early on by artists such as Alexander Calder, his work has been exhibited widely in New Orleans and New York City. Farrington has received commissions by SONY and the House of Blues and his work is in numerous private collections.

This will be Farrington's Florida debut.




Still Standing

Details: Contemporary outsider artist Michael Banks has taken the folk art world by storm. He makes his Florida debut in a show coinciding with African American History month. His signature medium is a layer of roofing tar on wood into which he scratches an outline of figures, animals or flowers and then paints over with vivid colors. After having sell out shows in Chicago, New York and Atlanta, Banks brings a collection of new work speaking to his struggle and ultimate recovery from growing up in the Alabama projects and combatting a family history of addiction.

Story Teller Doll Workshop with Cher Shaffer

Buoyant Innocence

History's Charming Faces: The Sanford Series

Date: July 14 - August 26, 2007

Details: The gallery walls will read like a history book during the run of this show for our featured artist, Linda Schapper. A talented textile artist, Linda creates charming vignettes from historical photographs that depict everyday life and special events. From the orange groves to the celery farms and the shores of Lake Monroe, you will glimpse a bit of Sanford's past.

Meet the artist at our opening reception on Saturday, July 14 from 1 to 4pm.

Summer Art Class, Altered Art for Teens

Art in the Garden at Apenberry's, 2007

Location: Apenberry's in Winter Park, 151 East Welbourne Avenue
Details: Join us at Apenberry's, the upscale garden shop in Winter Park, Florida one block east of Park Avenue. For the sixth year, we will showcase a mixed bouquet of favorite folk artists and some fresh surprises. Opening reception is set for June 23 from 11am - 3pm with a special program at 1pm, "Folk Art in the Garden," presented by Wayne McGonigal, Educator and Horticulturist.

Additional programming is scheduled for Saturday, June 30 with Liz Salierno, owner of Ambiance Design Studio, presenting "Incorporating Art into your Home Decor" at 1pm.

Jeanine will be visiting the garden shop on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays during the run of the show to answer questions about collecting folk art and to share some of her newest acquisitions.



Summer Art Class, Family Story Quilt

"Make Sacred Art"

Details: When the Reverend Howard Finster sought heavenly guidance on the issue of people forgetting his sermons, he says God told him to MAKE SACRED ART. Using this story as a touchstone, Jeanine has assembled inspired art from twenty one contemporary folk artists across the Deep South. Your spirit is sure to be moved.

Details: You have plenty of opportunity to visit the gallery with our new hours in effect, plus we are now open on Tuesdays. Our hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to 6pm and on Sunday from 12 to 5pm. We are closed on Monday.

The gallery will be closed from December 24 - 26 and will re-open on Wednesday, December 27.

We will be closed on Sunday, New Year's Eve.

Featured Artist of the Month for October - Jane Carpenter

Details: Visit us during the month of October to check out our featured Artist of the Month - Jane Carpenter. Her intricate and vibrant designs are inspired by her love of animals, flora and fauna, and the sea. Using a reverse painting technique dating from the 4th century, she handpaints the designs on the back of Lucite using tiny brushes and toothpicks. The paintings are then set in silver, each a colorful and detailed story.
