The Jewelry Show: Art of Adornment
Dates: January 24, 2009 to February 15, 2009 Time: Tue - Sat 10a - 6p and Sun 12 - 5p Location: 211 East First Street, Sanford Description: Prepare to be wowed when Jeanine Taylor brings together a select group of artists who specialize in jewelry for this inaugural event. From the whimsical to the spectacular, you'll find treasures galore. A variety of media will be displayed, ranging from cloisonné to found objects, hand cast resin, and recycled comic strips. Florida artist Jane Carpenter will visit the gallery for the opening reception and bring a wide selection of her intricate silver pendants, pins, necklaces, and earrings. Jane uses a multi-step process based on an ancient technique called reverse painting. Jane has adapted this old tradition by painting on Lucite and then setting her finished pieces in embossed silver. She is inspired by nature and her menagerie of cats as well as mystical characters that serve as guides to inspire her. In addition, local bead artists Robin Marks and Suzanne Ficquette will make their debut with a stunning group of hand made bracelets and cuffs. These two sisters are quite compatible when it comes to making jewelry; they both love colorful components and a sense of the slightly funky. Other designers featured: Caramia Visick who specializes in hand cast resin pieces reminiscent of old Bakelite jewelry; Kristin Holeman who creates enameled cloisonné earrings and pendants; and cousins Glena Henry and Sabrina Colson who use vintage graphics for their series of pewter framed charms. Join us in the gallery for a wonderful opportunity to mingle with artists and take home a unique treasure for yourself or in preparation for surprising your sweetheart on Valentine's Day.
