Leonard Jones

Leonard Jones (b. 1950) was born and grew up in Lincolnton, Georgia. He often built his own toys and started drawing as a child. A high school graduate, he worked as a lumberjack.

He still lives in Lincolnton, and is well loved by his community. Living very simply, in a house with no electricity or running water, he is a soft spoken man whose physical frame is large.

He paints primarily on tin roof scraps with house paint, depicting scenes from his childhood. He uses a broad brush to lay down large blocks of color, but for details he often breaks sticks into points or uses his fingers. In spite of these humble materials, his work is noted for its refined use of perspective and humorous subject matter.
