About the Event
St. Louis folk artist Theresa Disney has taken a deep dive into the visual meaning of Harmony. Disney’s preternatural knack for conjuring narratives of dancing days, moonlit soirees, and joyful moments come to life in her latest collection. Through the masterful weaving of texture, color and form, the viewer bears witness to the artist’s harmonious marriage of movement and serenity depicted in her vibrant florals and thematic portraiture.
Jeanine Taylor Folk Art will host the opening reception of Harmony on Saturday, January 28th, from 6-9pm. Entry is free and the show will run until February 25th.
Disney’s incessant need to create begins the moment she wakes each day and runs until exhaustion sets in at night. Misty mornings deep in the Blue Ridge Mountains – a favorite vacation spot – provide a drop of inspiration that helps to fill her well. The artist has an undying love for animals which proves to be another source of artistic fodder. With her head in the clouds and her hands in the paint (or any other medium she can find), Disney creates a world of her own design.
After sweating out one semester of art school, Disney took her leave for fear the formal instruction would diminish her natural style. She has continued to follow her path of unrelenting artistic independence ever since. It is her devotion to creating art that has sustained her through the personal struggles of abuse, fires, and cancer.
Her work can be seen at the Kentuck Center for Art and in numerous private collections in Florida and throughout the US. Disney’s art has been featured in Country Home Magazine and More Magazine, among other publications.
