LaVon Van Williams in Studio_edited.jpg

Join us at Jeanine Taylor Folk Art in welcoming back LaVon Van William, Jr. for his first show in Florida since 2018! The artist will be present for the opening reception of I Want to Choose My Seat and Sit Down on Saturday, July 27th from 6-8pm. Enjoy complimentary light refreshments and view the debut of a new selection of wood carvings, oil paintings, and more (including one carved automaton).

Busy in his Lexington, Kentucky studio, LaVon chisels away at wooden slabs to reveal a dynamic range of subject matter – ancestral histories, Black culture, folklore, jazz icons, personal identity, and so much more. His work spans multiple decades and continues to serve as an example of deeply heartfelt social commentary.

LaVon Van Williams, Jr.’s work has been featured at the Smithsonian Anacostia Museum, the Hickory Museum of Art, New York’s Outsider Art Fair and for his seminal solo 30 year retrospective at the Kentucky Folk Art Center.

This show has been several years in the making – mark your calendars!

All artwork will be visible and available for purchase online Saturday 7/27.
