The Historic Hotchkiss Building
The Hotchkiss building that Jeanine Taylor Folk Art moved into in 2005 was a far cry from its original form. Rebuilt after the Great Fire in 1887, the historic Hotchkiss building has become an easily recognizable landmark in Downtown Sanford. Built in the style of Romanesque Revival, local legend has it that rubble from the initial structure was salvaged and used in the re-construction of the iconic pediment on the corner of the building. Manuel Jacobson’s Department Store was the building’s most notable past inhabitant.
